Elections in Brazil go smoothly

The civil society organization ‘Transparência Eleitoral Brasil’, observer of the 2022 elections and member of the Transparency Commission of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), reported voting on the morning of the election Sunday (2) is going smoothly and queues are normal.

“Everything indicates that voters are voting peacefully, as has always been the case in Brazil,” said Transparencia Eleitoral Brasil General Coordinator Ana Cláudia Santano at a press conference attended by representatives of international missions from several countries.

According to the coordinator, 98 observers monitor the elections in five capitals: João Pessoa, Fortaleza, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, and Belém.

Among the places observed are detention centers and indigenous villages.

She said the queues run normally, and each voter takes between three and four minutes to cast their vote, which is considered an excellent average.

The facility assessment indicates that people “voted calmly” in the morning and that there is enough information in the polling stations to help voters.”

The majority of polling stations opened on time at 8 am.

No case of a delay of more than half an hour was noted. For the most part, the ballot boxes were well prepared to ensure the secrecy of the election.

There were few reports of improperly assembled ballot boxes. Moreover, the training of officials has been improved.

The commission representative said that no significant problems related to ballot boxes or voting had been reported.

Out of all the ballot boxes inspected, only five errors were reported. All of these issues have been resolved.

Two had problems when it came time to issue the zerésima, and three had crashed.

All cases were resolved by resetting the ballot box.
