Speaker of the House confirms merger between the PP and União Brasil center-right parties

The Speaker of the House, Arthur Lira (PP), confirmed on Saturday (Oct. 1) the merger between the center-right Progressive Party (PP) and the center-right Union Brasil party.

On Friday (Sept. 30), he met with União vice president António Rueda in Alagoas to discuss the alliance.

In July, Poder360 learned of the parties’ intention to form the largest congressional bench of more than 100 deputies for the next legislature.

When the idea emerged, the new legend would have a command divided between the three parties.

The presidency would be held by Luciano Bivar, former commander of the PSL. The vice presidency with ACM Neto, former president of the DEM.

The PP would be represented by the Secretary-General, represented by Ciro Nogueira.

The negotiations culminated in the creation of the Union Brasil party. However, the PP was left out.

The chief minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, confirmed to Poder360 outlet joining the group to form the largest bench of Congress of 2023.

On Febr. 8, the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) unanimously approved the registration of União Brasil, the party formed by the merger of PSL and DEM.

The Court upheld the law and the party’s program. This allowed the party to participate in the 2022 elections.
