The foreign ministers of the countries that make up the Andean Community (CAN) agreed to establish a special group to evaluate the strengthening of the international organization, informed the Peruvian Foreign Ministry.
“The foreign ministers of the CAN (…) have agreed to establish a special group for consultation and negotiation, with the mandate to evaluate the reform, modernization, and strengthening of the CAN in the context of the changes taking place in the sub-regional, regional and global spheres,” the Peruvian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The CAN comprises Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, aiming to promote common development policies.
It was stated that the special consultation and negotiation group would begin its work “immediately” with two representatives from each member country.
The group will have four months to present a consensual proposal to be submitted to the CAN with the support of its general secretariat.
