Brazil: Security measures reinforced before military parade

Brasília’s main avenue was blocked on Tuesday, September 6, as part of the reinforcement of security measures, one day before Brazil’s Independence Day military parade. Some embassies adopted preventive measures due to the risk of incidents.

The Federal District State Police informed that the barriers installed on the monumental axis avenue would remain until the public gathering tomorrow at the military parade dispersed.

Before the blockade, which began at 8 PM on Monday, a group of trucks driven by supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro tried to enter the avenue, but the police prevented them from doing so, the Brasilia Public Security Secretariat reported yesterday.

President Bolsonaro will lead the 200 years of Independence ceremony this Wednesday, September 7, in Brasília, after which he will travel to Rio de Janeiro, where there will be another military parade.

In Rio, Bolsonaro is scheduled to participate in a motorcade of motorcycles and then deliver a speech expected to be attended by thousands of people on the traditional Copacabana beach.

The State Police will guard the headquarters of the Supreme Court and the Superior Electoral Court with the support of agents of the Judicial Police.

Sources from the Brazilian Intelligence Agency informed that there is no risk of “serious incidents” and that the agency has deployed agents in the public buildings where this Tuesday was declared a holiday, reported CNN Brasil.
