Brazil already has a representative in contention for the 2023 Oscars. “Marte Um” by Gabriel Martins was selected by the Brazilian Academy of Cinema and Visual Arts and will compete for one of the Best Foreign Film category nominations.
The Martins, a black family from the lower middle class, live a life between their daily obligations and their desires and expectations, despite the tensions with the conservative government that has just taken power in the country.
Amid this daily life, Tércia takes care of the household while going through anxiety crises, Wellington wants his son to become a professional soccer player, Eunice has a new love, and little Deivinho dreams of colonizing Mars.
The cast includes Ejane Faria, Carlos Francisco, Camilla Damião, Cícero Lucas, Ana Hilário, Russo APR, Dircinha Macedo, Tokinho and Juan Pablo Sorín. The director and screenplay are by Gabriel Martins.
The 2023 Academy Awards will be held on March 12, 2023.
