Shipwrecked Brazilian fisherman survived eleven days in a freezer

Brazilian fisherman Romualdo Macedo Rodrigues floated in a freezer in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean for eleven days after his boat sank, news portal Uol reports.

The rescue was carried out by sailors who discovered the floating device in the open sea off Suriname. The weakened man was detained for 16 days in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname because he had no papers.

In an interview with Brazilian television, the fisherman explained that he got the idea to put himself in the freezer after seeing his boat begin to sink.

The man had left the port of Oiapoque in the Brazilian state of Amapá to fish for three days. However, his boat cracked, and water entered, and the next day it sank, said the fisherman, who cannot swim.

He had only one freezer left, and after testing whether the object would float, he decided to use it as a boat.
