Bolsonaro says on Brazil’s most-watched news program that he will respect ‘clean elections’ result

Brazilian President and re-election candidate Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right) said Monday (Aug. 22) that he would respect the outcome of “clean elections” this year. He made this statement in an interview with Jornal Nacional of the Rede Globo television channel.

It is Brazil’s most-watched news program. The topic of elections took up about 10 of the 40 minutes of the interview.

“The results of the ballot boxes will be respected as long as the elections are clean and transparent,” he said.

The news program began hosting the presidential palace’s main candidates this Monday. Bolsonaro was the 1st candidate.

The interviews of Bolsonaro and his opponents will take place this week.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT, left), Ciro Gomes (PDT center-left), and Simone Tebet (MDB, center) should have equal time to present their ideas and answer questions from William Bonner and Renata Vasconcellos. The prescribed time of 40 minutes is subject to minor variations.
