Venezuela produces 80% of its food to reduce dependence on imports

The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, informed that his country is producing more than 80% of the food consumed by the population given the heavy damages caused by the U.S. sanctions against the nation.

The president specified that, a few years ago, 90% of the food that reached Venezuelan homes was imported since the oil industry’s income fundamentally sustained the country.

“Today, I can say that more than 80 percent of the food consumed by our people is Venezuelan, made in our land”, he said, while assuring that right now, “we are not depending on oil or anyone else”.

The head of state highlighted that the policy in the Venezuelan countryside is supported by a scientific plan with nine vertices of political action.

Maduro also highlighted that his country has offers “for foreign investments to come” to create productive agreements with a view to an eventual and progressive transformation of the nation “into a food producing and exporting power”.
