Helicopter crash with 2 dead in the north of São Paulo

At least two people were killed in a helicopter crash in the Jaguará area of northern São Paulo early Friday evening (5), according to the São Paulo Fire Department.

The accident was reported to the company at about 6:40 pm. The helicopter, which had eight people on board, crashed near a farmhouse on Avenida Fernando Mendes de Almeida at an altitude of 2,000 meters. The site was also near a high-voltage pylon.

Military police and firefighters are investigating the cause of the crash. Information about the victims was not disclosed.

The site is located next to Cantareira State Park and is inaccessible to land vehicles. The specialists entered the space on foot through the forest.

According to the company, at least six vehicles and 28 firefighters were called to the scene to assist.

According to military police, residents heard an explosion and saw the plane crash. The pilot and co-pilot, João Augusto and Edson dos Santos, died charred on the spot. The bodies were taken to the IML.

The scene has been bustling since Friday evening after police began investigating. According to reporter Rafael Ferraz, the target of the helicopter was unknown to the police.

The agents have to make a detailed forensic examination of the bodies to then hand them over to the family. According to the information, the helicopter took off around 6 pm Friday. The aircraft crashed after landing in the Taipas region in the northern zone.

Police ruled out that it was due to a fuel shortage. Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency) was to conduct a thorough investigation. At the time of the accident, six group vehicles went to the scene, and 28 men were deployed to respond to the incident. The 74th Police District is responsible for the area.
