Bolivia reports trade surplus of US$1.22 billion in the first half of 2022

From January to June 2022, Bolivia achieved a trade surplus of US$1.22 billion, which translates into a 32% increase compared to the same period of 2021, when this indicator reached US$926 million, according to the Bolivian Institute of Foreign Trade (IBCE).

“As of the first semester of 2022, Bolivia recorded a trade surplus of US$1.22 billion, registering an increase of 32% compared to the balance recorded in the same period of the last management,” stated the IBCE report based on data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

According to the report, during the first semester of 2022, exports grew 38% and imports 39%. Likewise, the main destinations for external sales were India, Brazil, and Argentina, while Bolivia’s main suppliers were China, Brazil, and Argentina.

The largest trade surplus was recorded with India for a total value of US$977 million. Meanwhile, the largest trade deficit was with China (-US$773 million), according to IBCE.
