Calling Nicaragua a ‘pariah state’ US ambassador is blacklisted by Ortega

The Nicaraguan government has prevented the new US ambassador, Hugo Rodriguez, from entering the country following his offensive remarks against Managua.

Ambassador Rodriguez attacked Nicaragua in a speech before the US Senate, claiming it was “turning into a pariah state in the region.”

Agence France-Presse quoted Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada as saying in a letter addressed to his US counterpart, Anthony Blinken, that “the Nicaraguan government, within the framework of its powers and the exercise of its national sovereignty, immediately withdraws the permit granted to Hugo Rodriguez, following his disrespectful statements.”

Last May, US President Joe Biden appointed Rodriguez as ambassador to Managua.
