How many years of independence will Peru celebrate in 2022?

The Fiestas Patrias in Peru is the festivity that the nation uses to commemorate the country’s independence and revive its customs, identity, culture, and all the innate aspects of Peru, leaving behind the Spanish monarchy.

After several years of relentless pursuit of freedom to be an independent country and with the death of several precursors, Peru closed the history of the viceroyalty era, giving way to the republican era.

HOW MANY YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE WILL PERU CELEBRATE IN 2022?

On July 28, 1821, the Independence of Peru was declared after a war of several years against the Spanish resistance. In 2022, Peru will celebrate 201 years free from the Spanish yoke.

All this would not have been possible without the heroes of the independence, the movements, and demonstrations against the Spanish crown, after the subjugation that they made to the citizens of Latin America and, in this case, to the Peruvians.

WHEN WAS THE BICENTENNIAL OF PERU?

On July 28, 2021, the Bicentennial of Peru was celebrated since it was 200 years of independence and sovereignty. Likewise, that year a Supreme Decree was created declaring 2021 as the “Year of the Bicentennial of Peru: 200 years of Independence”. This slogan was used in all State institutions.

WHAT IS JULY 28 IN PERU?

July 28 for Peru is one of the most important dates in its history since, on that day, the independence of Peru was proclaimed in the Plaza de Armas in Lima, which in turn meant the end of the Spanish era and domination over Peruvian lands.

It ended nearly three centuries of viceroyalty, but its significance is more significant because, with independence, Peruvians could continue with their customs and strengthen their cultural identity.

Religiously, a Te Deum (‘To you God’) mass is held by the Archbishopric of Lima.

On the other hand, since July 28 and 29 are holidays, many people choose to travel to the country’s interior.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE NATIONAL HOLIDAYS?

The Fiestas Patrias, Independence, or Peruvian anniversary, are titles expressing the celebrations for Peru’s independence after the Spanish subjugation for nearly 300 years and total autonomy from any other foreign domination.

At the same time, it ratifies the nation as an integral and respectful nation of its millenary heritage, ethnic and cultural diversity, and values.
