Brazil’s 10 largest economies

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil’s GDP in 2021 was R$8.7 trillion (US$1.7 trillion), according to data from the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). The latest survey that measures the wealth of the Federation’s 27 states is from 2019.

10TH PERNAMBUCO

The northeastern state has the tenth-largest economy in the country, with a GDP of R$197.9 billion.

9TH GOIÁS

The state in the Center-West region has the ninth-largest economy, with a GDP of R$208.7 billion.

8TH FEDERAL DISTRICT

The Federal District is the federative entity that houses the country’s capital, Brasilia, and occupies the eighth position among the richest: R$273.6 billion.

7TH BAHIA

Brazil’s first capital, Salvador, ranks seventh in wealth: R$293.2 billion.

6TH SANTA CATARINA

The sixth-largest economy in the country has a GDP of R$323.3 billion.

5TH PARANÁ

With a GDP of R$466.4 billion, Paraná has the fifth-largest economy in the country. The capital, Curitiba, is famous for its urban planning.

4TH RIO GRANDE DO SUL

The GDP of R$482.5 billion puts Rio Grande do Sul in the fourth position on the wealth podium.

3RD MINAS GERAIS

In the third position is Minas Gerais, with a GDP of R$651.9 billion.

2ND RIO DE JANEIRO

The state of the “Cidade Maravilhosa” (“Wonderful City”), which was Brazil’s second capital, ranks second in wealth, with a GDP of R$779.9 billion.

1ST SÃO PAULO

São Paulo is the wealthiest state in Brazil, with a GDP of R$2.35 trillion. The capital, São Paulo City, is among the largest cities in the world. São Paulo City center is filled with skyscrapers, making it known as the “stone jungle”.
