Putin says he ‘guarantees’ fertilizer supplies to Brazil until early 2023

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro spoke on the phone with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday (27), according to the Kremlin. During the dialogue, the heads of the executive bodies discussed global food security.

In the conversation, Putin spoke about trade in fertilizers. Russia is one of the world’s largest producers of this commodity. In May, Bolsonaro said that fertilizer supplies were “guaranteed” until early 2023.

According to the memo, Russia’s president told Bolsonaro that he is “committed to fulfilling his obligations to ensure the uninterrupted supply of Russian fertilizers to Brazil’s agricultural industry.

Bolsonaro and Putin reiterated their mutual intention to consistently strengthen the strategic partnership between the countries, such as by expanding cooperation in various fields, including agriculture and energy. The two also discussed Brazil’s rotating presidency of the UN Security Council starting July 1.
