The Netherlands announces purchase of five Brazilian Embraer cargo planes

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On June 16, the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands confirmed it would buy five C-390M freighters manufactured by Brazil’s Embraer. According to the Dutch government, the first aircraft should be delivered in 2026.

The country is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The purchase cost is estimated at €1 billion (US$1.1 billion).

According to a statement issued by the agency, the Embraer aircraft was chosen because it has operational and technical advantages over Lockheed Martin’s C-130J, another model frequently used by the military forces of several countries.

Embraer celebrated the Dutch government's announcement and said it was honored by the decision.
