Paraguay and Taiwan advance talks to implement electric buses

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The ambassador of Taiwan in Paraguay, José Han, stated that the conversations between the diplomatic representation and the Vice-Ministry of Transport are very advanced regarding the implementation of electric buses in the country, with the support of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The ambassador did not say whether they donated the buses or the money to purchase the buses, but he affirmed that all conversations are advancing. “We have electric bus manufacturing of several brands, but what we will implement with the vice ministry is still in conversation. We still do not have more details, but the conversation is advancing,” mentioned the diplomatic representative of Taiwan on May 26.

Likewise, he informed he had already talked and exchanged ideas with the Paraguayan Vice Minister of Transportation, Victor Sanchez, to agree on how this project will be implemented. “I can’t say exactly the time, but we will touch the subject again with the Vice-Ministry of Transportation on electric mobility after the pandemic. We are working very closely with the vice ministry,” he said.

Finally, he pointed out that this is a commitment made by Taiwan before the beginning of the pandemic at the world level and that, finally, the conditions were met to advance this cooperation.

“It is a commitment that we acquired a couple of years ago, but due to the pandemic, it could not materialize, and now the conditions are in place to make it possible; that is why a couple of days ago I went to visit Vice Minister Sanchez, then we returned to touch the subject, and we are in conversation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Vice Minister of Transportation, Víctor Sánchez, had already advanced that at least four possible corridors are already fully designed, at the request of the Taiwanese embassy in Paraguay, to define the circuits of the electric buses that will offer the service at night.

“We also have several proposals with different frequencies. Based on that, they will make an availability calculation to bring the electric buses and provide a night service with electromobility,” he said.
