Brazil 2022 elections: Instagram blocks live broadcast of president’s son Eduardo Bolsonaro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Instagram profile of Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) has been temporarily blocked from live broadcasts. When trying to start a live broadcast, a message is displayed informing of the blocking.

The measure was justified by the MP’s violations of the social network’s guidelines.

“I must be a bigger threat than [Venezuela’s President Nicolás] Maduro,” the congressman ranted on Wednesday (11). He posted a printout of the notification on Twitter.

The live broadcast took place on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

SEALS

Hours earlier, Eduardo had criticized the seal in posts on social networks about the elections. Today, when algorithms identify posts about the election, a label is displayed with a link to the Electoral Justice website.

On Twitter, the president’s son pointed out that a similar feature was used in posts about the pandemic. “Only God knows where else this is going and who is pressuring them to do these things,” the president’s son ironized.

TSE

Last December, Meta announced that it would begin to stamp posts about the elections in the content on Facebook and Instagram.

The measure is part of a censorship partnership with the TSE (Supreme Electoral Court) to ‘protect the democratic process’ and disseminate only official information.

According to the Superior Electoral Court, in January and February of this year, the first full months with the sealing of posts, a total of 1.4 million hits were recorded on the electoral portal’s homepage.

This represents an increase of almost ten times compared to the two-month period of October and November 2021, when 146 thousand hits were recorded on the website’s homepage.
