On International Labor Day, May 1, there will be right-wing and left-wing actions all over Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Groups of both the left and the right have called for demonstrations across the country on May 1. Former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) is expected to attend an event in São Paulo.

Government leader Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is expected to join his supporters’ demonstration in the capital, São Paulo, via video call.

International Labor Day is traditionally celebrated by trade unions with demonstrations. The main event of the CUT (Central Única dos Trabalhadores) will take place in São Paulo, where Lula will be present.

The event will take place at Praça Charles Miller in Pacaembu, starting at 10 am. There will be performances by artists such as Daniela Mercury, Francisco El Hombre and Leci Brandão.

Stage of several demonstrations in São Paulo, Avenida Paulista will be occupied by Bolsonaro supporters. The performance is scheduled for 2 pm in front of the Masp (Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo). The avenue is located 3 km from the venue of the CUT.

One of the organizers of the right-wing event, Paulo Generoso, told Poder360 that Bolsonaro, Economy Minister Paulo Guedes and former Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights Damares Alves were scheduled to attend the event via video call.

Here are the main demonstrations planned in other cities:

LEFT

  • Maceió (AL) – appearance at 9 a.m. in front of the CRB Club in Pajuçara;
  • Salvador (BA) – all-day event at the Farol da Barra; a political appearance is planned for 3 p.m;
  • Fortaleza (CE) – concentration at 9 am in Areninha do Pirambu; the march will go through the main streets of the neighborhood towards Vila do Mar, in Barra do Ceará;
  • Brasília (DF) – act at 4 pm in the Funarte parking lot;
  • Vitória (ES) – act at 9 am in Costa Pereira square;
  • Goiânia (GO) – act at 9 a.m., in Praça do Trabalhador;
  • Cuiabá (MT) – Act at 3 p.m., at the Pastoral Center for Migrants;
  • Belo Horizonte (MG) – act at 9 a.m., Afonso Arinos Square;
  • Foz do Iguaçú (PR) – event at 10 a.m., Praça da Paz
  • Recife (PE) – event at 3 p.m., Alfredo Lisboa Street, 1152
  • Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – event at 10 a.m. at Aterro do Flamengo, on Rua Silveira Martins;
  • Natal (RN) – event at 8:30 a.m. at Praça das Flores;
  • João Pessoa (PB) – event at 9 a.m. in the Comunidade Bola na Rede, in front of the Jesus Misericordioso housing complex;
  • Porto Alegre (RS) – event starting at 10 a.m., at Espelho D’Água (Redenção Park);
  • Florianópolis (SC) – event at 10 a.m., at Largo da Alfândega;
  • Sorocaba (SP) – from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Parque das Águas.

RIGHT

  • Rio Branco (AC) – event at 2 p.m., at the Arena da Floresta;
  • Macapá (AP) – event at 3 p.m., at Praça do Forte;
  • Manaus (AM) – a motorcade at 4 p.m., starting at Bola do Produtor;
  • Belém (PA) – performance at 9 a.m. at the stairs of Docks Station;
  • Palmas (TO) – event at 9 a.m., Girassóis Square;
  • Brasília (DF) – event at 9 a.m., at the National Museum;
  • Goiânia (GO) – event at 9 a.m., Tamandaré Square;
  • Campo Grande (MS) – event at 9 a.m., at Praça do Rádio;
  • Cuiabá (MT) – motorcade at 3 p.m. at Praça das Bandeiras;
  • Curitiba (PR) – event at 2 p.m., in the city center.
  • Londrina (PR) – event at 3 p.m., at the traffic circle of JK and Avenida Higienópolis;Porto
  • Alegre (PR) – event at 3 p.m., at the Parcão;
  • Florianópolis (SC) – event at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., at Trapiche da Beira Mar;
  • Vila Velha (ES) – performance at 12 noon, next to the Moby Dick gas station;
  • Vitória (ES) – event at 2 p.m., in Praça do Papa;
  • Belo Horizonte (MG) – event at 10 a.m. on Praça da Liberdade;
  • Juiz de Fora (MG) – event at 10 a.m. in São Matheus Square;
  • Uberlândia (MG) – event at 9 a.m., at Parque Sabiá parking lot;
  • Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – event at 10 a.m., at Posto 5 in Copacabana;
  • Araçatuba (SP) – event at 10 a.m., at Havan;
  • Campinas (SP) – event at 9:30 a.m., at Largo do Rosário;
