Colombia to end mask mandate in closed spaces from May 1

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The mandatory use of masks in closed spaces has its days numbered in Colombia, as announced by the President of Colombia, Iván Duque, on April 25.

According to Duque, as of May 1, masks in enclosed spaces will be withdrawn “except for health services, geriatric homes, transportation, and enclosed spaces within educational facilities”.

Meanwhile, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the health emergency will be extended for two more months, from May 1 to June 30, Duque announced on April 25 in a message to the nation. The president added that this measure would only be applied in municipalities that have reached 70% of double doses and have achieved at least 40% of booster doses.
