Russian fertilizers to be removed from U.S. sanctions list

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Fertilizers and medical products will be placed on a protected list so the U.S. can continue to buy from Russia without problems, reports the Russian Pravda.

U.S. authorities have exempted Russian fertilizers from sanctions “to avoid a shortage of chemical products.”

For this reason, Russian fertilizers were included in the list of essential goods published by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control on March 24.

The document indicates that mineral fertilizers are considered essential goods, as are agricultural products, pharmaceuticals, and medical products. What the U.S. lacks is not subject to sanctions.

The license issued allows any commercial activity with the listed products without fees or sanctions.

The United States would have decided to protect itself from the dangers to its agriculture by not using fertilizers.
