Fuel price in Uruguay rises 36% in two years

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Industry of Uruguay has informed this Monday about a new fuel increase of two percent, which would represent a rise in the price of hydrocarbons of more than 36 percent in almost two years of the Government of Luis Lacalle Pou.

In the communiqué, the Ministry of Industry of the Latin American nation detailed that this price increase is a direct consequence of the crisis between Russia and Ukraine.

In this sense, the communiqué of the entity detailed that the Government tried to face an increase that could have been five percent, according to a recommendation of the Energy and Water Services Regulatory Unit and decided to set the rate of increase at two percent.

The institution detailed that gasoline will increase by 1.5 Uruguayan pesos per liter (about 0.03 dollars) while diesel will increase by one peso (0.02 dollars).

It is worth mentioning that as a result of the conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, fuels have experienced a sharp increase of about 13 percent.

However, this is the second increase in fuel prices applied by President Lacalle Pou in 2022, after he announced last January after a global increase in the cost of hydrocarbons of about 15 percent.
