Amazon signs agreement with AEB to boost space sector in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian Space Agency plays a major regional role because it offers a range of activities related to space transportation, satellites, research and applications.

“The cooperation with Amazon Web Services opens new avenues for start-ups in Brazil that focus on space exploration and seek access to cutting-edge computing tools,” Brazil’s Ambassador to Washington Nestor Forster Jr. said Thursday.

The cooperation focuses on long-term economic and technological development that will benefit “the Brazilian government, Brazilian commercial space organizations and space-focused startups,” AWS said in a blog post released Thursday.

The two companies will focus on three areas. One focused on economics and development that empowers startups to “foster innovation for future missions related to science, space exploration and national security,” it said.

In addition, a space data repository will be created that will facilitate its analysis using cloud tools and technologies.

Finally AEB and AWS will address national policies, strategies and regulatory measures in support of Brazil’s civil, commercial and national security space objectives.

“This new understanding following Brazil’s accession to the Artemis Agreements benefits the Brazilian space industry, opening opportunities for the private sector,” the Brazilian ambassador said in Washington, where the agreement was signed the day before.

The Artemis Agreements establish principles guiding cooperation on space exploration between the countries.
