Sailboats from other countries dock in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate Brazil’s independence

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The huge sailboats attracted the attention of those passing through the port area of Rio de Janeiro on Monday (14). The vessels, which come from several countries, are taking part in the “Sail Latin America 2022” event.

The event, which runs from Feb. 13 to 20, kicks off the Navy’s celebrations of Brazil’s 200th anniversary of independence this year.

In addition to the Brazilian Navy’s sailboat “Cisne Branco,” boats from Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Uruguay will also participate.

The event has been held every four years since 2010. It aims to gather large sailboats of friendly navies from Latin America, strengthening the friendship between the institutions and future generations of officers and crews.

In addition, the initiative also aims to spread the culture of each of the participating countries.

The public can participate in the meeting by making an appointment, which can already be set on the website of the Brazilian Navy.
