Neymar suffers bank robbery in Brazil; alleged thief arrested

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – São Paulo State’s Civil Police arrested on Wednesday a 20-year-old man accused of fraudulently diverting nearly R$220,000 (US$42,000) from the bank accounts of Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar.

According to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat, the young man, who worked as an administrative assistant for a company, is part of a criminal group dedicated to swindling through illicit transactions.

The young man, who used the easy online banking transaction system known as PIX, which is becoming increasingly popular in Brazil, was arrested by special agents of the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (DEIC), who had been investigating fraud against several bank clients, including Neymar.

The authorities indicated they identified other people involved in the scams.
