Brazilian government invested US$45 billion in women-oriented projects in 2021

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil’s conservative Federal Government, transferred, in 2021, about R$ 236 (US$45) billion for actions directed to women. Of the total amount, R$60 million was invested exclusively by the Ministry of Women, Family, and Human Rights (MMFDH).

This is according to the data of the report “Women in the Household” of the Ministry of Economy. The document emphasizes that the focus is on supporting women and reversing the inequalities that affect this population group.

“This amount invested shows the Federal Government’s attention to Brazilian women, transparently. A work that involves several ministries, with universal policies, to ensure women’s rights in our country”, evaluated the Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Damares Alves.

The focus is on supporting women and reversing the inequalities that affect this population group.

Part of this amount attends to men and women alike but mainly affects the female public and, therefore, is part of the efforts to attend to this segment. The report encompasses 79 budget actions selected together with the ministries, distributed in 27 programs of the 2020/2023 Multi-Year Program.

Of the entire amount, about 44% went to the health area (R$103.5 billion), followed by investment in social protection (R$85 billion) and education (R$39 billion).

To combat violence against women, R$670 million was invested. There are also initiatives aimed at economic autonomy and access to rights such as housing, transportation, culture, and leisure.

“We have developed strategies to give Brazilian women a safe, dignified life, full of opportunities. These investments in public policies in the areas of health, education, social protection, economic autonomy, access to rights, and fighting violence against women reflect the government’s efforts to assist women in reducing the inequalities that have historically affected them,” said the National Secretary of Policies for Women, Cristiane Britto.

In relation to combating violence against women, the document also highlights direct actions of the Federal Government to raise awareness, prevent and address the problem, such as the construction of Brazilian Women’s Houses, Integrated Centers for Attendance to Women, Safe and Protected Women Program and Save a Woman Project.
