Bolsonaro’s mother dies, at 94, in the countryside of Brazil’s São Paulo State

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The mother of President Jair Bolsonaro, Olinda, 94, died early Friday morning, January 21. The president himself communicated the death on his social networks: “With regret, the passing of my dear mother. May God welcome her in his infinite goodness,” he posted on Twitter. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Olinda Bolsonaro lived in Eldorado (São Paulo State) and had been hospitalized since Monday, January 17, at São João Hospital, in Registro, interior of São Paulo State. In the post, Bolsonaro also published a video with family images in the company of his mother.

The president, who was on an international trip – he had arrived on Thursday morning in Paramaribo, Suriname – also communicated that he would return to Brazil.

POLITICIANS LAMENT BOLSONARO’S MOTHER’S DEATH

Through social networks, in the early hours of Friday, politicians paid solidarity to the family of the Chief Executive.

The president’s son, councilman Carlos Bolsonaro, was one of the first to speak out on the web: “Owwww my Great Father,” he wrote on Twitter.

Soon after, Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro also used a social network to share the news. “In memory, sweet moments from my childhood to the most recent with her and her peculiar laugh”.

Tourism Minister Gilson Machado paid his tribute, as did Minister Damares Alves, who said she was praying for the entire family.

The Special Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency of the Republic posted condolences for the death.

In the post, Bolsonaro also published a video with family pictures in the company of his mother.
