RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian economy continues to show signs of a sharp slowdown, as has been the case for months, given the advanced composite indicators, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) warned on Monday.
In the case of Brazil, this indicator, which signals in advance inflections in the economic cycle, fell by 90 tenths in December to 98.59 points, thus moving away from the 100 level that marks the long-term trend, the OECD said in its publication.
It has been falling for a year in a row. This decline has accelerated in recent times (90 hundredths in both November and December, 86 in October, 75 in September, and only one in January).
Brazil is the only one of the six large emerging economies for which the OECD provides these statistics to have such an unfavorable performance.
It contrasts in particular with Russia, whose indicator has been advancing throughout 2021 and reached 103.89 points in December.
In China, as in Brazil, there are also signs of a weakening of growth, but the trend is less marked, with a drop of 15 hundredths last month to 99.40 points.
