Uruguay advanced 70% in textile production

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Uruguayan wool and textile industries faced the pandemic in 2021 by shooting its weight in the foreign market and reaching at the end of the year an accumulated increase of 73% over the total recorded in the 12 months of 2020.

As for destination countries, Uruguayan wool has found in the European Union an excellent ally. The category was among the three most exported products to the bloc, only behind the cellulose and beef sectors.

In the December analysis, the entity reveals that exports of wool and fabrics increased 34% compared to the same month of the previous year. In terms of value, shipments of the wool industry reached in December an amount of US$18 million, US$4 million above the total recorded in the last month of 2020.

It should also be noted that the category managed to remain in the ranking of the 15 main export products of Uruguay in the fiscal year 2021, reaching 12th place with a share of 2% in total shipments.
