Brazil unemployment rate stands at 12.1% in the quarter to October -IBGE

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The unemployment rate in Brazil was 12.1% in the quarter ended in October, according to data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Continuous Pnad) released on Tuesday, October 28, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The result was within the expectations of analysts heard by Projeções Broadcast, who estimated an unemployment rate between 12.0% and 13.4%, with a median of 12.3%.

In the same period in 2020, the unemployment rate measured by the Continuous National Household Sample Survey was 14.3%. In the quarter to September, the vacancy rate was 12.6%.

INCOME

The average real income of the worker was R$2,449 (US$430) in the quarter ended in October. The result represents a drop of 11.1% in relation to the same period a year earlier.

The actual usual income mass paid to occupied people totaled R$225 (US$40) billion in the quarter to October, a 1.9% drop in relation to the same period a year earlier.
