Brazil’s Bolsonaro assesses raising public servants: “All of them deserve it”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Thursday, December 23, shortly after Federal Treasury servants agreed to a strike in protest against the inclusion in the 2022 Budget of resources for wage adjustments solely for the Federal Police, President Jair Bolsonaro said that no category has been defined.

“There is nothing defined,” he said during his traditional Thursday live stream on social networks, to also state that he is assessing a raise for all servants. “All of them deserve it.”

However, still facing strike threats from other categories, the President once again praised the work of the police. “The Federal Highway Police has broken records in drug seizures. The Criminal Police has a huge job and their salaries are low. This doesn’t mean that we will attend to this or that category. Some R$2 billion (US$353 million) have been set aside, let’s see what will be done in the future,” he said.

In another signal to federal public servants, Bolsonaro said that there are talks with Minister of Economy Paulo Guedes’ team about a raise for the whole category.
