Mercado Libre to reunite families this Christmas in Latin America

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In addition to Brazilian consumers’ traditional Christmas shopping, this year Mercado Libre decided to offer another kind of gift. To celebrate the first Christmas free of travel restrictions, the company launched the “These holidays, the best is yet to come” campaign throughout Latin America to promote reunions between families separated during the Covid-19 pandemic.

To this end, the e-commerce company has rented an airplane bearing its logo to carry 60 passengers from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Chile and Uruguay to reunite with their loved ones.

“These are real stories filled with joy, through which Mercado Libre supports family reunions as the heart of celebrations,” the company explained.

In the first round of trips, Brazilians Bruna Souza, who was in Mexico, and Matheus Brum, who currently lives in Uruguay, were invited to fly to Brazil.

SHAKING HANDS

In 2020 and because of the pandemic, the e-commerce giant decided to change its classic logo with two hands shaking into a “touch of elbows,” which became the official greeting method to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 infection.

For Christmas, Mercado Libre is back with its logo, to invite people to reconnect and value emotional bonds, the company said.

“We are still concerned with the pandemic, maintaining all safety protocols in this time of reunions,” says Mercado Libre’s brand director for Latin America Thais Souza Nicolau.

DONATION CAMPAIGN

In addition to Christmas reunions, Mercado Libre’s financial arm Mercado Pago will hold a donations campaign to fight hunger in Brazil. The initiative will be conducted in partnership with the Amigos do Bem and Ação da Cidadania organizations.

Donations can be made directly in the fintech app through the “Donate Button,” created in 2019 especially for donation campaigns. Collection takes place on the platform until January 3.
