Federal Savings Bank starts paying Brazil Aid of R$400 (US$72) monthly

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Federal Savings Bank (Caixa Econômica Federal) will pay this Friday, December 10, the “Auxílio Brasil”(Brazil Aid) to beneficiaries with Social Security Numbers (NIS) ending in 1.

A Provisional Measure published in an extra edition of the Federal Gazette on December 7 brought forward the payment of the new Brazil Aid amount. The instrument created an extraordinary benefit to complement the installments previously foreseen for the Brazil Aid to the sum of R$400 (US$72). That is, each family will receive at least R$400.

According to the Ministry of Citizenship, of the total 14.5 million families assisted in November by the federal government’s new social program, 13 million received less than R$400. In November, the average value of Brazil Aid was R$224.41.

The payment dates follow the model of the old Family Grant, which paid beneficiaries in the last 10 working days of the month. In December, due to the Christmas holiday, payments will be extended until the 23rd, one week earlier than the regular calendar.

Beneficiaries may check information on payment dates, the amount of the benefit, and the breakdown of installments in two apps: “Auxílio Brasil,” developed for the social program, and the “Caixa Tem,” used to keep track of the bank’s digital savings accounts.

The new social program consists of 3 basic and 6 supplementary benefits, which may be added should the beneficiary find a job or have a child that stands out in sports, scientific or academic competitions.

Families with a per capita monthly income of up to R$100 (considered to be in extreme poverty) or up to R$200 (considered to be in poverty) are eligible for Brazil Aid.
