Brazil’s ex-Minister Moro reinforces position as 2022 presidential candidate

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Ex-judge Sergio Moro made it clear in a conversation with Rio Grande do Sul governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB), that he entered the race for 2022 as a presidential candidate and not for other positions.

The ex-judge and former Minister of Justice is trying to enable his candidacy alongside other names. One of them is João Doria, who beat Leite in the PSDB primaries and also seeks to be the voter’s alternative to Lula (PT) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

If the candidacy of Bolsonaro’s ex-ally ally grows, as some party leaders are forecasting, Doria’s path will become more arduous. Leite and Moro met on Saturday, December 4, and discussed the electoral scenario.

Doria’s supporters say that the meeting is normal because Leite is an important figure and is working to build the third way.

Doria told the report that “dialogue is the essence of politics.”
Before the PSDB primaries, leaders of parties in the base of the federal government accompanied Moro and Leite’s movements and considered the union between them a “dream coalition.”

São Paulo state Regional Development Secretary Marco Vinholi argued, when asked about Leite’s meeting with Doria’s potential opponent, that Leite has already declared his support for Moro.
