Chinese Tencent Cloud opens its first data center in Brazil for Latin America

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Thursday (25), the cloud computing division of Chinese giant Tencent, Tencent Cloud, officially announced its entry into Brazilian territory with its first Internet Data Center (IDC) in São Paulo. Currently, Tencent Cloud’s global network is present in 27 regions and has 68 availability zones.

The opening of the company’s new IDC in Brazil will play a vital role in the digitalization trend and digital transformation process in the country and across Latin America, contributing to the growth of South America-based organizations in the Chinese market and the Asia-Pacific region through seamless data integration with their core operations in Latin American environments.

From the new base, Tencent Cloud will provide flexible computing, storage, big data, artificial intelligence, security, and other cloud services to its Latin American partners and import customized solutions for the culture, gaming, and audiovisual industries.

The new IDC adopts Uptime-Tier 3, with PCI DSS and ISO 27001 certifications and other credentials, demonstrating the structure’s high standards of reliability and security and featuring a high standard of redundant network fiber-optic connections to many network exchange hubs in São Paulo.

According to one market consultancy, Brazil’s total investment with public cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) is expected to reach US$3 billion (R$16.6 billion) in 2021, representing a 46.5% increase over the previous year.

Level Up!, a well-known game company with hits like Ragnarok and Grand Chase, founded in the Philippines in 2002, which arrived in Brazil in 2004, will be one of Tencent Cloud’s business partners in Brazil. “This new infrastructure allows other institutions and us in a wide range of business sectors to capitalize on Tencent Cloud’s years of experience in providing stable and resilient network solutions,” said Glaucio Marques, CEO of Level Up!
