RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian airline Gol resumed operations after more than a year and a half stopped by the Covid-19 at the international level and had Uruguay as its first destination on a flight that departed from São Paulo (Brazil) and landed at the Carrasco International Airport, located on the outskirts of Montevideo.

The airline informed this Thursday in a press release, stating that the return to the skies of the continent took place in a festive atmosphere with champagne on board and gifts for customers who traveled on the plane.

According to the text, in the boarding lounge, Gol’s International Markets Sales Manager, Luiz Teixeira, highlighted the resumption of flights abroad after such a long time and thanked both employees and customers.

On landing, the 176-passenger plane received the traditional arrival baptism with water and passengers got a gift candy with the legend “Return to Montevideo”.

“In 2019, before the pandemic, Guarulhos-Montevideo was one of the three international routes that brought better results for the Company. In addition to the success expected with this resumption, GOL is also celebrating the return of the international flow of tourists and business travelers, a sign that the advances in vaccination show consistent paths for society, tourism and the sector,” Teixeira detailed, according to the official statement.

As of November 1, Uruguay opened its borders to anyone who has completed the vaccination process (14 days after the inoculation of the last required dose).

After 20 months of isolation, Uruguay decided to re-authorize the entry of anyone with the immunization schedule of any country. Since Monday, visitors have started to arrive by land routes as well as by flights and boats through the Río de la Plata.
