Russia and Brazil highlight potential for biomedical cooperation

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Davydov, who is also president of the Scientific Council of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) National Research Committee, pointed out in a Moscow-Brazil videoconference the need for the parties to “feel and understand” the forms of cooperation in this field.

“Some political and, perhaps, religious prejudices, if you will, must be set aside, but it is important to find the most acceptable option for effective cooperation,” he stressed.

Davydov acknowledged that Brazil has very solid experience in biomedical research, while drawing attention to the potential for strengthening ties in the political and economic spheres.

He noted that bilateral relations have been affected in recent years. This situation “is typical of the development of the global economy and politics, because politics strongly interferes in the modern global market,” he said.

The academic considered that free competition gave way to politics, and this led to serious losses for Brazil, Russia and many other countries. According to the academic, the United States is “the instigator of confrontational politics on the world stage.”

He pointed out that within the BRICS, Brazil and Russia are capable of overcoming the difficulties and costs of such policies over the past few years.
