Brazil’s Senate Covid-CPI calls for Bolsonaro to be ‘suspended’ from social networks

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Senate parliamentary inquiry committee investigating the Brazilian government’s handling of the pandemic demanded Tuesday (26) that President Jair Bolsonaro be “suspended” from all social networks for spreading false information about Covid-19.

The request was included in the commission’s report, which the group’s 11 members will vote on Tuesday.

The commission investigated the government’s stance on a pandemic that has already killed more than 605,000 Brazilians and accused the president of “crimes against humanity” and eight other crimes.

The commission called for Bolsonaro’s suspension from all networks indefinitely after he suggested in a broadcast last Thursday that those vaccinated against Covid risk contracting AIDS, prompting Facebook and Instagram to remove the video and Youtube to block the president’s profile for seven days.
