U.S. Army to conduct joint military training in Brazil in November

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro signed a decree authorizing the temporary entry and stay of U.S. military forces in the national territory to participate in a training exercise between November 28 and December 18, 2021, in the region of Vale do Paraíba, in the 60-kilometer stretch between the municipalities of Resende (RJ) and Lorena (SP).

These combined training exercises with the US Army, called CORE (Combined Operations and Rotation Exercises), were conceived during the XXXVI BRAZIL-USA Bilateral Staff Conference, held in October 2020.

The purpose is to increase interoperability between the two armies. The first exercise took place from January to March of this year, in Fort Polk, Louisiana, USA. The exercises are scheduled to take place every year until 2028.

“It is noteworthy that initiatives like this are inserted in the context of the Bilateral Agreement between the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Government of the United States of America on Cooperation in Defense Matters, signed in Washington, on April 12, 2010, and enacted by Decree No. 8609, December 18, 2015,” says the Ministry of Defense, in a press release.

The organization and execution of the CORE 21 training exercise are the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense, commanded by General Walter Braga Netto, through the Army Command.
