Industrial production in Brazil drops in 7 of the 15 locations surveyed in August -IBGE

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The production of Brazilian industry fell in seven of 15 locations surveyed in August, compared to July, according to data from the Regional Monthly Industrial Survey (PIM Regional), released on Friday (08) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In relation to August 2020, there was a decline in nine of the 15 locations surveyed.

The national production fell 0.7% in August, compared to July, as released by IBGE last Tuesday (05). Today, the institute details the result by the different locations tracked by the survey.

In the series compared to the month immediately preceding August, there were seven locations with negative rates. Between July and August, the negative highlight was the double-digit loss in Pernambuco (-12.0%), and more intense drops than the national average in Espírito Santo (-3.7%), the Northeast (-3.5%), Mato Grosso (-2.3%), Rio Grande do Sul (-1.0%) and Minas Gerais (-0.9%). On the other hand, Amazonas (7.3%) and Pará (7.1%) showed the highest increases in this comparison.

When compared to August 2020, industrial production fell in nine of the 15 locations surveyed. In this comparison, the national industrial production also fell 0.7%. In this comparison, the Northeast region (-17.2%), Bahia (-13.8%), and Pernambuco (-13.5%) showed the most intense declines. Pará (-6.2%), Ceará (-5.6%), Goiás (-3.4%), Mato Grosso (-2.1%), Amazonas (-1.5%), and Rio Grande do Sul (-1.5%). On the other hand, in this comparison, Paraná (8.7%) and Minas Gerais (6.5%) showed the most significant increases.
