UK removes Brazil from ‘red list’; vaccinated travelers will not need to comply with quarantine

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The UK announced on Thursday (7) the removal of Brazil from the “red list” for Covid-19, and vaccinated travelers will not need to comply with mandatory quarantine in hotels starting this Monday (11).

According to a British government statement, travelers from Brazil and 46 other countries – who are fully vaccinated – will only need to present a negative test for the disease, in addition to proof of vaccination.

The decision, however, says that travelers who are not fully vaccinated will still have to comply with a ten-day isolation period but will no longer be required to serve this quarantine in one of the government-owned hotels.

The government report also said that those vaccinated in Brazil would be recognized as any vaccinated British individual within the kingdom, provided they have been vaccinated for at least two weeks with the immunizers below:

Oxford/AstraZeneca
Pfizer/BioNTech
Moderna
Janssen

The list of vaccines approved by the British government for international travelers does not include Sinovac (known in Brazil as Coronavac).

The g1 agency contacted the UK embassy in Brazil and asked whether the immunization would be considered valid for travel, but there was no reply as of the last update of this report.

The decision, however, is valid only for England. Other countries that make up the United Kingdom have the autonomy to decide about their visitors. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland keep Brazil on their “red list”.

What changes?

With the removal of Brazil from the “red list”, England reopens its territory to ordinary travelers. Before, only British citizens, or foreign residents, could pass through – with restrictions.

All travelers over the age of 11 are still required to take a Covid-19 test within 72 hours before departure.

It is no longer mandatory to book one of the hotels authorized by the British government to stay for ten days in quarantine.

However, you will still need to fill out the “Passenger Locator” form to follow the traveler in case of infection.

How to prove vaccination?

Those vaccinated in Brazil can prove their vaccination with the national certificate issued by the Ministry of Health in both English and Spanish. The following information must appear clearly:

  • name and surname of the traveler
  • date of birth
  • vaccine brand and manufacturer
  • date of vaccination for each of the doses
  • country or territory where the vaccine was administered
