CCR awarded Brazil Pampulha Airport at US$6.2 million auction

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazilian infrastructure company CCR won the Pampulha Airport in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais) auction for R$34 (US$6.2) million, with a 245.29% premium, in a fierce dispute with Consórcio ASA. CCR is a partner of Zurich Airport, which manages the Confins international airport also in Minas Gerais

“CCR Aeroportos is consolidating itself in Brazil in this sector, mainly in Minas Gerais, where we already have the Confins concession. This is a long-term project,” said CCR Aeroportos’ CEO Cristiane Gomes after the auction.

The auction foresees the concession of the expansion, maintenance and operation of the Minas Gerais airport terminal, currently used for executive and general aviation (private companies, air cab and hangars).

The criteria for the auction was the highest value of the fixed award, at a minimum of R$9.84 (US$1.8) million.

The annual payment of a variable fee is also foreseen, corresponding to a percentage of the concessionaire’s gross revenue.

The contract has a 30-year term, with the option to extend it for another 5 years to restore the economic and financial balance.

According to the Minas Gerais government, the concession will involve investments of around R$151 million. Of this total, approximately R$65 million will be invested in the first 36 months, earmarked for the construction of a general aviation terminal, taxiway system, partial rehabilitation of the runway surface, and preparation for new hangars, among other projects.

The project also estimates the collection of R$99 million in federal, state, and municipal taxes.

Some 30 hangars belonging to several companies are in operation at the terminal. The annual average of passengers handled in the past 5 years was 323,900, with a traffic volume of 41,500 aircraft.
