Socially vulnerable youth in Brazil to receive cell phone chips with free internet

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The philanthropic institution Espro (Professionalizing Social Teaching) will distribute, in partnership with Vivo, cellular chips entitled to 20 GB of free internet to 15,000 young people served by the institution.

Most of these young people are today in a situation of social vulnerability, and with the program, they will gain connectivity, not only for learning but also for leisure.

The idea is that young people can watch TV series or access social networks. The Espro Young Covid-19 research, the most extensive survey in the country about the influence of the pandemic among young people, shows that most of them watch series as their primary source of entertainment, and Instagram is the preferred social network for 94% of them.

The Connect program, created by Espro and Vivo, will cost about half a million reais (around US$90,000) in the first year. This will be financed partly by Espro and partly by discounts given by Vivo Empresas to acquire the chips. By the end of the year, it will reach 2,000 youths and the rest will receive the chip next year.
