Paraguay remains main Latin American footwear supplier to Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to the latest report of the Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries (Abicalçados), Paraguay has once again been established for the first eight months of 2021 as the leading Latin American footwear supplier to the Brazilian market. It is also the only country in the region on the list of leading exporters.

Specifically, Paraguay exported between January and August a total of US$1.53 billion in footwear to Brazil; this amount represents a slight increase of 0.3% compared to the same eight-month period in 2020 when the Paraguayan industry shipped US$.1.51 billion.

As for the volume of pairs exported to Brazil, the result has soared to double digits compared to 2020.

According to the entity, between January and August of this year, the Paraguayan footwear industry sent a total of 568,407 pairs of shoes, a figure 78.5% above the total recorded in the first eight months of 2020, which recorded the shipment of 318,420 pairs “Made in Paraguay”.

With this result, Paraguay ranks seventh overall in the ten countries that exported the most footwear to Brazil, surpassed only by global competitors such as Vietnam, which leads the list, followed by Indonesia, China, Italy, India, and Cambodia. It is also ahead of Thailand, Bangladesh, and Spain.
