Several airlines and commuter ships to reestablish connections to Uruguay

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “We are moderately optimistic, because air connectivity network with Uruguay is being reestablished,” said on Saturday Undersecretary of Tourism Remo Monzeglio.

According to the official, Brazil’s Azul Airlines has scheduled flights to Montevideo and Punta del Este, and soon Aerolíneas Argentinas, Gol and Avianca will follow. “Today we had a Zoom meeting with a very important Chilean ultra low cost airline and there are similar others also interested in flying to Uruguay, because they see it as a safe destination,” he added.

He believes it will not be easy to “restore pre-pandemic numbers, neither here nor anywhere else in the world,” and that is why optimism is moderate.

COMMUTER SHIPS RETURN

Late on Friday, the Ministry of Tourism received confirmation of the resumption of Colonia Express services, operational from September 25. Buquebus, which connects Uruguay with Argentina by river, will also reinstate its routes.
