Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro launches online donation program for the homeless

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Municipal Social Assistance Secretariat has created a platform where the demands of the vulnerable population can be viewed and the form of donation chosen, namely: time, supplies and materials, services and financial.

To prevent misappropriation of donated resources, the portfolio’s secretary Laura Carneiro said that the digital system will display the entire course of donations, to be allocated according to the demand of each of the secretariat’s 118 centers throughout the city.

According to the Secretariat, some 700,000 people have been assisted by its centers and initiatives this year alone. The figure represents 30% more than over the same period in 2020.

The program aims to facilitate and encourage solidarity among citizens, companies, and entities, Carneiro said.
