RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Uruguay added 189 new cases in 10,078 Covid-19 tests in a day without deaths diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, as reflected in its daily report the National Emergency System (Sinae).

Thus, the number of deaths due to the disease remains at 6,034 since 13 March 2020, when the health emergency was declared in the South American country.

Since the beginning of the crisis, Uruguay has had 385,264 cases of covid-19, of which 1,257 are people currently suffering from the disease, 15 of them admitted to intensive treatment centers (CTI).

The South American country remains in the yellow zone of the Harvard index, which accumulates the weekly average of new cases of covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants, with a record of 3.58. Of the country’s 19 departments, four of them are in the green zone: Río Negro (west), Durazno (center), Flores (southwest), and Lavalleja (southeast), while the rest are in the yellow zone.

A few days ago, the Uruguayan Executive announced the progressive opening of borders as of September 1. At that time, foreigners with properties in Uruguay will be able to enter the South American country. Subsequently, as of November 1, any foreigner who has completed the vaccination process will be able to do so.

According to the web monitor developed by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), Up to 18.40 hours (21.40 GMT) this Thursday, 153,453 people have been inoculated only with the first dose. In contrast, 2,519,273 (71.11% of the population) have already completed the immunization schedule of the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac, the Anglo-Swedish AstraZeneca, and the American Pfizer.

Similarly, the MSP reported that 488,966 people have already received the third dose according to the plan announced by this agency last week for those who -after being immunized with Coronavac or AstraZeneca- choose to receive a third dose, in this case from Pfizer.

Last Saturday, the President of the country, Luis Lacalle Pou, received the third (booster) dose of the US vaccine, and in his social networks, he thanked all the health personnel and insisted that the country is proud of them for their work.
