Covid-19: Germany removes Brazil and Uruguay from highest risk category

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – With the withdrawal of two South American countries, there will no longer be a nation on the list of countries that the German government considers the highest risk.

According to an official German government document, Germany has decided to remove Brazil and Uruguay from the list of countries with the highest risk category for coronavirus infections. The decision will take effect next Sunday, August 22.

According to the German government, with the removal of South American countries from the classification of “areas with variants of concern,” no country will be included in the list of countries that pose the highest risk. Brazil will be placed in the second highest “high risk” category, while Uruguay will not receive a new classification.

In addition to Brazil, Greece, Ireland, the Dominican Republic, Kosovo, and northern Macedonia are now considered “high risk” areas, while Andorra and the Spanish autonomous communities of Asturias, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, and Valencia are no longer on the German list of high-risk areas.
