Brazil’s VP Mourão and ex-governor Sartori lead Rio Grande do Sul 2022 Senate race

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – An Orbis Institute poll conducted last Monday (2) shows that the ex-governor of Rio Grande do Sul José Ivo Sartori and Brazil’s Vice-president Hamilton Mourão are leading the race for a Senate seat in 2022. Next year, each state will elect only one senator.

The poll shows Sartori in first place with 15.7% of voting intentions, followed by Mourão with 14.6%. The Orbis poll also placed Sartori as the favorite in the race for governor.

Also in the race for the Senate are the ex-mayor of Porto Alegre José Fortunatti (8.6%), Paulo Pimenta (7.5%), Ana Amélia Lemos (7.4%), Marcel van Hattem (7%), Lasier Martins (6.3%), Silvana Covatti (5.7%), Beto Albuquerque (4.7%) and Osmar Terra (4.3%).

The poll was conducted by telephone with 995 voters in Rio Grande do Sul. The error margin is 3.1%, according to the institute, with 95% reliability.
