France permits entry of vaccinated tourists; Coronavac not included in approved list

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – France announced on Saturday (17) that the entry of tourists fully vaccinated against Covid-19 is permissible, regardless of the country of origin. With this, Brazilian travelers will also be able to go to the country.

However, only people who have received doses of immunizers approved by the European health agency will be allowed entry: those from AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, or Janssen. Persons who have received the Coronavac immunizer – the most common in Brazil – are therefore not included in the measure.

In addition, it is necessary to wait seven days between the second dose and travel, or 28 days in the case of Janssen’s single-dose immunization.

According to Caroline Putnoki, director of À Tout France, the country’s official tourism development agency, a certificate of vaccination and a statement that the traveler has no symptoms or contact with people with Covid-19 are required.

Details on how foreigners will be able to issue the “health pass” to go to places of culture and leisure and how children’s travel will be controlled have not yet been announced.

Before the change, passengers coming from Brazil could only enter the country if they had a specifically permitted reason, such as family reunification or residence in France.
