Government and unions reach agreement; São Paulo public transport strike ends

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The strike of CPTM railroad workers, which affected the circulation of train Lines 7-Rubi, 8-Diamante, 9-Esmeralda, and 10-Turquesa in São Paulo was ended early this evening (15), after an agreement between the government and unions.

The São Paulo state government will make the necessary contribution to train operator CPTM and pay employees appropriate profit participation (PPR) for 2020.

In the agreement, the first installment of PPR will be paid in August and the second in January 2022. Regarding the proposed collective bargaining, the matter will be decided by the Regional Labor Court (TRT).

Thus, all CPTM lines will operate normally this Friday (16), from the beginning of commercial operation (4:00 AM).

In a statement, CPTM says that “the company has spared no effort to ensure the least possible impact to passengers” and reaffirms that the “holding of a shutdown at a time of pandemic as the current is unfair and unacceptable.”
